Hawk is flying high over a deep canyon, but it is not hawk that beckons our attention, rather the little ant that is holding onto the shoulder of hawk as it soars thousands of feet up in the sky.
Not fully aware of what’s happening, so close to danger yet nestled in the safety of the expert avian’s feathers. At times, this kind of ignorance can be useful, shielding the ant from the worry and mind blows that can easily throw her off her path.
The journey may be treacherous at times, it is not our duty to assess or know all of the steep drops or seemingly impossible hurdles along the way. But rather, it is to do our work, focus on our abilities and instinct, keep the faith, and forge forward for the good of the larger community.
In other words... don’t look down.
Matrilineal colonies, subterranean architects, masters of collaboration, networking, and trusting their feeling sense to guide them, ant is THE teacher of our time.
Resilient, tenacious, community-centered, collaborative and connected to her instinct. When one goes down, the others are signaled to come help and fight.
Pay attention. Follow your internal compass, and do your work - even if it seems random or unseen.
TRUST, yet be discerning. Give and receive support, and together, we will forge a new path and structure that honors our relations and Mother Earth.
Ant Medicine
Resilience, industriousness, diligence and instinct.
Ant may find itself being tossed in the wind, only to find itself starting over wherever it may land. Ant uses energetic and sensory communication through her antennae and sense of smell to navigate back to home and nourishment. Signal to your tribe through your vibration, through your pheromones, through your essence, energetic focus and work.
Tribe
Ant not only picks up information through her antennae but also use them to convey social signals... to state this is who I am and this is my tribe. This is imperative as collaborative builders that work both in subterranean and above ground levels.
Do the work.
It doesn’t have to be seen to be meaningful, productive, efficacious, or impactful. Ant is a master at collaboration, structure, building mazes and labyrinths in the dark and cavernous underground. A subterranean network, linking seemingly different areas and regions, ant does the work with its tribe to literally move mountains.
Mutualism & Synergy
Ant works in mutualism and symbiosis with trees and other insects. In the tropics of the south, there are ants that drink the sugary sap of the tree, and in exchange, repair the open wounds of tree with a black tar-like substance created by their saliva, which prevents infestation from other opportunistic insects or bacteria.
Matrilineal & Egalitarian
Queendoms without oppressive hierarchy or even democratic process, there is still social order. You could say that each ant comes into being “programmed” with its unique duty and gifts that they offer the wider community. They are hunters, gatherers, farmers, livestock handlers, warriors, explorers, builders, healers, and more. Each has its role and they don’t try to be something they are not in order to “fit” in... they fit in by being who they are to the fullest. Much like bee colonies, most worker ants are female and male ants are primarily there for impregnating the Queen.
“Randomness” is Constant: Pivot & Explore
One of the most fascinated things about an ant colony is their collective capability to thoroughly and efficiently explore large areas without any predetermined plan (or sight).
Ants explore in a “random” pattern, yet it is in this randomness that solutions are discovered. By changing their movement patterns based on individual interactions (when they bump into another entity), they cover more ground but can also walk in a straight line until confronted with something in their path.
They do not stop or give up. They pivot and explore.
These methods are so useful, they are used in computer modeling to obtain optimal solutions from decentralized elements.
Guided by Instinct and Senses
There are many paths to heaven. When we incarnated into embodied humans, we were given the gift of senses to guide us. The feeling sense is one of the oldest and most reliable of all - commit to connecting in with your feeling sense and practice trust by following it.
What are ways that you can begin to live synergistically with Mother Earth? Follow your instinct and gifts? Build resilience, and create the space to do your work this month?
Trust in the randomness life throws at you and allow yourself to be guided with diligence and determination, in collaborative harmony.
