#UNFILTERED Moon Musings :: Full Moon in Aries :: Harvest Moon Celebrations, Thought-Seed Saving, & Firing up for Fall

Happy Fall Equinox! Megan and Venessa discuss the themes of this Full Moon in Aries aka Harvest Moon: Review, Celebration, Harvest, Sow. We talk about the concept and importance of seed saving, chucking out what didn’t work, and preparation for what’s to come.

We introduce this season’s poster organs - the colon and lungs - and how they interconnect (on all levels), impact our immunity and overall physical health in this transitional season. We share ways that we like to support our health and that of our families... Megan shares specific food and herbs, and Venessa shares a bit about her nutritional “reset” this season that included cleaning house.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How this is an opportune time to take inventory of what routines have worked and plan to incorporate

  • The colon/large intestine and lungs as the “poster organs” of fall

  • The importance of one of the number one things that is checked in charts for poeple in very sick

  • The gravity and importance of the colon - what we’re able to release and clean out

  • It’s time to discriminate what is needed and what is not needed

  • The concept of an “idea jar” that Megan got from her business coach Amanda and using it as a “thought seed bank”

  • What are the steps that we take right now - spend time looking at how your body felt and noticing patterns

  • How to support our immunity in this transition season, i.e. protect from viruses, bacterial infections, & more!

  • How to eat seasonally and great foods and recipes to incorporate to stoke your fire and get ready to burn through the coming cooler months

  • How to assist your body in the major transition into winter months

  • Why lung issues are so prevalent in this time, and Megan’s family issues with lungs - plus how she has addressed them with food and herbs (and how Megan used her hubbie as guinea pig)

  • Tips for alleviating dampness and coolness

  • In Chinese Medicine, the colon is the part of the first meridian which begins with the lung and ends with the colon. The two are interlinked as the lungs are what one brings into one’s self and the colon is what one releases.

  • How issues in the colon can manifest in the lungs and vice versa.
How every function of your body, including your metabolism, depends upon the proper intake and carrying of oxygen by your lungs.

  • How Venessa was able to overcome asthma and the foundational dietary components that are shown to reduce or reverse asthma in studies

  • How Venessa rode the wave of Virgo season, aka nature’s adderall

  • How to think of seasonal eating and living in different phases: Birth, growth, maturity, harvest, & storage

  • The importance of stocking your natural “medicine cabinet” and some of the superfoods and herbs mentioned to help with immunity:

  • Slippery elm bark, honey, zinc, probiotics, quercetin, nettles, elecampane, mullein, mulberry root bark, wild cherry bark, astragalus, medicine mushrooms

  • Megan reads a closing beautiful poem by Mary Oliver called This World as an old to spring and summer

Practices + Questions to Ask Yourself/Try this New Moon // Journal Prompts

Carve out time for yourself and have a review:

  • What are all of the things that worked? How would you like to modify or continue into the Seasonally darker months?

  • What are all of the things that need to go? How can you release it to create space for the newness?
