Ep. 184 Joyous Resilience :: Navigating the Voices Within for Personal & Collective Healing with Anjuli Sherin

In this episode, we’re speaking with licensed marriage, family therapist, Anjuli Sherin, M.A., LMFT, author of Joyous Resilience: A Path to Individual Healing and Collective Thriving in an Inequitable World. Anjuli shares what “joyous resilience” means to her and why she intentionally focused on bringing joy in healing at the forefront. Anjuli shares her personal story of healing, moving through layers of trauma and how she found her voice. She highlights how supportive group therapy was in her own experience and how powerful it was to watch the magic of people coming alive which drew her to becoming a healing practitioner herself.

Anjuli breaks down the “cycle of suffering” and the “circle of resilience” models, how she got inspired to write about it, and how it helps folks in building resilience. We discuss the various roles that Anjuli has identified we all have within us and that each have a specific voice. I also share a bit of my personal experience with “the neglector” and as a reformed people pleaser. Anjuli talks about the various kinds of critic that can show up, the internal voice that destroys the sense of self, and the importance of connecting with what she calls the “vulnerable self,” helping us to discern between the various voices we carry - which are actually supportive versus hurtful.

She also talks about how to express anger in a healthy way and how to tell when the anger is “unhealthy.” We also touch on the rage and grief that is pervasive, how to honor it in a healthy way and channel it thru actions in our lives.

Finally, Anjuli shares what centering joy as a practice in life looks like for her and how to sustain it during challenging times. Anjuli has a gift of 9 meditations for listeners, click the links below to learn more!
